DATE - 26th November 2023 VENUE - Ingatestone and Fryerning Community Theatre DIRECTOR - Louise Hunt MUSICAL DIRECTOR - Paula Templeman Sophie Finlay shone as Red Riding Hood, with great stage presence and a lovely singing voice. Alex Davey was Granny, the Dame of the show, and carried this off well and he interacted really well with the audience. The Three Pigs were Spammo played by Aven Fernando, Gammo played by Rais Middleton and Hammo played by Tom Stubley. They all had great energy, and their enthusiasm was contagious. Mother was played by Imogen George, wonderful presence on stage and added humour with her character being unable to remember the names of her two children. Little Red Riding Hood was played by Tara George. She interacted well with Red Riding Hood and with Mother. Prince Max was well played by Jessica Pudney and had good stage presence. The songs were all extremely well performed with some lovely vocals. I particularly enjoyed ‘Bad to the bone’ sung by Mr Wolf, ‘Don’t worry be happy’ sung by everyone and ‘What a feeling’ sung by Granny. |
Of course, in all pantomime, there must be a 'baddie' - and to continue the storyline, it had to be Mr Wolf played by Daniel Rust - excellently costumed and suitably wicked. He growled and snarled as Mr Wolf and moved around the stage in character beautifully. Millie Hodey was wonderfully evil as the wicked Rob the Builder, and spot on was Jake Barham as the sidekick Mate the labourer.
The set was very simple, and props were well used to show the scene changes, I especially liked the brick, straw and twig houses of the pigs. Scene changes were efficient and quick. The costumes and make-up were all excellent and in keeping with the characters. The Wolf had a particularly effective costume and creepy make up.
The lighting was effective and well executed, the cast were well lit and visible. There were a few technical issues with the sound and some of the mics were a little late being switched on, so some words were lost. However, this didn’t seem to diminish the audience’s enjoyment of the show. The cast were all engaging and clearly enjoyed their roles.
Thank you for the warm welcome that I received. All in all, a lovely pantomime. Congratulations to you all.
